Interview with Tim and David, about the new album
(February 2010)
What’s the title? D: Ouhhh… it’s to early to tell right now.
T: Party, party, party!
How many songs this time? D: We wrote more than 20 songs for this album… and we finally finished 13 of them.
T: We never did that before... When we recorded
Sobstuff, tales & anthems we just took all the songs we could play and recorded them. This time was the first time that we really wrote much more songs than we needed to make sure that only the best would make it on the album.
Can you talk about them a bit? D: Its complicated to talk about songs that you just finished yourself, its hard to rate it cause there is a lack of distance of course. But by now I’m totally amazed by what we’ve done. There will be so many different types of music on this album. We have the fastest punkrock we’ve ever written, we got experimental songs I would have never expected to do this way, we have trashy feel-good-love-songs, we have party-songs, we have songs that are real ska again, we have crazy in-your-face parts…
T: I am really amazed how the songs turned out to be. I think the new Album is very diversified. So we have a little bit of everything in it, just like David said.
How long did it take to record and produce it ?D: We started to write songs for the album in the end of summer 2009. And there were also a few ‘left-overs’ from the Ep that we used… Tim and me wrote these songs in the end of 2008! We started producing and recording in the end of 2009… and now we’re still not finished.
T: The album grows with time, so I think it is good that we are writing for more than a year now.
Does this album have a special meaning for you? D: Hm… didn’t think about that yet. I think every song that I… or that we write has a special meaning for me even though it sounds crappy to say it like that. And of course it has a special meaning for our band, cause it will represent the new Destination Anywhere that exists since spring 2009.
T: And exactly this is the special meaning for me. New members, new sound! I guess this album will definitely help us to develop as a band.
Do you plan to make a video for the “first single”, and which one would it be? D: I’d love to! But we’ll have to see… and we’ll have to check our wallets.

When will it be out? (approximatively) D: 2010…
T: Summer I guess.
Tim, you’re singing your own song, how does it feel to steal your friend’s job? xD T : Oh, well... I like to sing, but just in the studio. If we would ever play this song life David would have his job again.... It's just that I wrote the song alone at home in my room and it was just for fun. I never intended it to be a song on the record. But when I showed the bandmembers they were like "Hey it's a great song, lets put it on the record" and even David, our producer liked it, so i was very pleased and wanted to put it on the record too. The song is very cheesy, poppy and gay, and so is my voice. So it just fits with the song.
Can you tell us a little funny story that happened during your production session? D: Well… I laughed more than I did not during the production I think. But a special story? I haven’t got one right now. Check out our production-videos!
T: Once i was so drunken that i went into a post shop and locked my head into the doors while David was watching und making fun of me. Too bad that we had no cam with to film it.
What’s your favorite song, and why? D: Can’t tell. It depends on the mood. There are some lyrics that I’m very glad that they are on the album. That’s could make a song be my favourite. But… no. No favourite. Not yet.
T: Well I have a favorite song at the moment, but i don't know if it will be my favorite after we are done with recording. Because the vocals and horns are missing.
When do you plan to sing a song in german... and in french?... xDD : Ouhhhh....
. I’m not planing anything like that. But you never know....
T: On the next album I will sing a song in Nicaraguan.

Combien de chansons cette fois-ci ? D: Nous avons composé plus de 20 chansons pour cet album… et nous avons finallement terminé 13 d’entre elles.
T: Nous n’avons jamais fait ça avant... Quand nous avons enregistré
Sobstuff, tales & anthems nous avons juste pris toutes les chansons que nous pouvions jouer et on les a enregistré. Cette fois, c’était vraiment la première fois que nous écrivions plus de chansons que nous n’en avions besoin, pour être sûr que seules les meilleures seraient sur l’album.
Pouvez-vous nous en dire plus sur ces chansons? D: C’est compliqué de parler de chansons que tu viens juste de terminer seul, c’est dur de les classer parce que tu manques de recul. Pour l’instant je suis totallement émerveillé parce qu’on a fait. Il va y avoir plein de styles différents sur cet album. On a le plus rapide punkrock qu’on a jamais composé, on a des chansons expérimentales que je n’aurai jamais faire comme ça, on a des chansons d’amour trash, on a des chansons pour faire la fête, on a de nouveau des morceaux très ska, on a des parties coup de poing genre « dans ta face »…
T: Je suis vraiment impressioné de la tournure qu’ont pris les chansons. Je pense que ce sera un albul vraiment diversifié. Il y a un peu de tout, exactement comme l’a dit David.
Combien de temps cela vous a-t-il pris pour enregistré et produire l’album ?D: On a commencé à composer, fin de l’été 2009. Et nous avions toujours quelques morceaux non utilisés sur le 2nd EP qu’on a récupéré. Tim et moi avions écrit ces chansons fin 2008. On a commencé la production et l’enregistrement fin 2009... et nous n’avons toujours pas fini.
T: L’album s’étoffe avec le temps, alors je pense que c’est bon signe que nous écrivions depuis plus d’un an.
Cet album a-t-il un sens particulier pour vous ? D: Hm… je n’y ai pas encore réfléchit. Je pense que chaque chanson que j’ai… ou que nous avons écrit a un sens particulier pour moi, même si ça sonne naze de le dire comme ça. Et bien sûr que cela a un sens particulier au niveau du groupe, car il représente la nouvelle formation de Destination Anywhere qui existe depuis cet été 2009.
T: Et c’est exactement ce qui le rend spécial pour moi. Nouveaux membres, nouveau son ! Je suis certain que cet album nous aidera à nous développer comme un vrai groupe.
Prévoyez-vous de faire un clip vidéo du “1er single”, et quel serait-il ? D: J’adorerai ! Mais on verra... il faudra bien fouiller nos porte-monnaie.

Quand est-ce que cet album sera disponible? (approximativement) D: 2010…
T: Cet été je pense.
Tim, tu chante ta propre chanson, ça fait quoi de piquer l’emploi de ton pote ? xD T : Oh, bah... J’aime bien chanter, mais seulement en studio. Si nous devions un jour jouer cette chanson live, David récupérerait son job... C’est just que j’ai écrit cette chanson seul dans ma chambre, pour le fun. Je n’ai pas pensé qu’on pourrait l’utiliser pour l’album. Mais quand je l’ai fait écouter aux gars, ils ont dit :” Hey mais c’est une super chanson, on la met sur l’album! » et même David Bonk, notre producteur, était de cet avis, alors ça m’a fait plaisir et j’ai dit ok. C’est une chanson un peu mieleuse, pop et gay, un peu comme ma voix.alors ça va bien avec le morceau.
Pouvez-vous nous raconter une petite anecdote amusante sur votre session d’enregsitrement ? D: bah… J’ai ri bien plus qu’à toute autre production. Mais une histoire spéciale ? Là tout de suite, j’en ai pas. Regardez nos vidéos sur la production !
T: Une fois, j’étais tellement bourré qu’en voulant entrer dans un bureau de poste, je me suis coincé la tête dans les portes pendant que David me regardait et se foutait de ma gueule. Trop dommage qu’on ai pas eu de caméra pour filmer ça.
Quelle est votre morceau favori, et pourquoi ? D: Je saurai pas dire. Ca dépend de mon humeur. Il y a des paroles dont je suis super fier. Ca peut être un critère pour qu’une chanson devienne ma préférée, mais.. non, pas encore de favori.
T: Bah moi j’ai une nouvelle favorite en ce moment, mais je ne sais pas si ce sera toujours ma favorite à la fin de notre production. Parce que pour l’instant, le chant et les cors manquent.
Chanterez-vous un jour en allemand... et en français ?... xDD : Ouhhhh....
. Je ne prévois rien de tel. Mais qui sait....
T: Sur le prochain album, je chanterai une chanson en Nicaraguois.
